Thursday, July 26, 2018

Patrick Daniel Mullaney, 90, passed to Our Lord on July 23, 2018 with his family by his side.

Pat was born March 16, 1928 in Sturgis, South Dakota the youngest of six children to Helena and

Frances Mullaney. His first

job was working the holiday season at JC Penney at the age of 12.

Pat met Helen Irene Franklin at a VFW dance in Powell, Wyoming in 1949. They were married April 16, 1951 and moved to Missouri where Pat served in the Army. After his honorable discharge, he returned to work for JC Penney. They lived in Sheridan, Miles City and Bismarck before settling in Laurel Montana in 1958. Pat and Helen raised their six children during their 30 years in Laurel, where he worked as the store manager until his retirement in 1988, after 46 years with JC Penney.

Helen preceded Pat in death on October 5, 2015. He is survived by his sister, Sister Jane Francis, and his children, Christine Mullaney, Cynthia (Mike) Conner, Mary Sickle, Stephen (Carol) Mullaney, Marlene (Greg) Lambert, Shawn (Amy) Mullaney and 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion of two years, Sharon Lyle.

Pat enjoyed his retirement years at his tree farm, Shamrock Acres, outside of Roberts, Montana and spending the winters in Tucson, Arizona. Shamrock Acres was the place of many family reunions,

with breakfast cookouts and floating and wading

the cold waters of Rock Creek. He enjoyed taking care of his horses over the years, Shoshone, Snow Maiden, and Shawn’s horse, Sunup, but most enjoyed driving his buggy with his beloved horse, Chief. The Black Hills of South Dakota and the Beartooth Mountains were favorite destinations for his many road trips.

A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Laurel, with a luncheon to follow at the parish hall. A vigil service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Chapel, 315 E 3rd St, Laurel. Private internment will be at a later date at Yellowstone National Cemetery.
