James (Ron) Markovich

James (Ron) Markovich, 80, passed away on Thursday April 12, 2018, after a four year battle with cancer. Born on July 7, 1937, he spent his youth in Bearcreek, Mont. His father John, mother Rose and brother Bob have all preceded Ron in death.

The family moved to Laurel, Mont. during his high school years where he met his wife Joan. Ron and Joan married on February 15, 1958. They lived together in Laurel raising three boys and a baby girl and have watched the family grow with nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

While raising the family, Ron spent the majority of his working life with the Cenex refinery in Laurel, where he developed many lifelong friends. Ron and Joan spent much of their time at the kids football, basketball, baseball and track meets and carried on that tradition with the grandkids’ activities. They also traveled often together on long road trips throughout the west.

Ron loved to tinker with cars and attended many car shows throughout his travels. He also was an avid bowler and a golfer at the Laurel Golf Club for many years. He will miss his recent time with the old Cenex gang for coffee and the many friends from high school that remained in touch all these years.

His beloved wife passed away in February 2013, and they are together again.

He is survived by sons, Steve (Julie) of Billings, Nick of Laurel, Ken of Las Vegas, Nev. and daughter Sherry of Laurel, grandchildren Danielle, Brett, Thomas, Tyler, Jenny, Jesse, Lori, Timothy and Taylor and great-grandchildren Kaitlyn and Conner.

The family expresses its gratitude to the many caregivers over the past four years that allowed us to enjoy as much time as we could with our Dad. We truly are proud to be our father’s sons and daughter.

At his request, cremation has taken place. In lieu, of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice. A memorial open house will be held at Smith Funeral Chapel, 315 E. 3rd Street in Laurel, on Friday April 20, between 5 and 7 p.m.
