Joliet boys 2nd, girls 4th at District 4B

Boys

The Joliet boys fell to Roundup 42-38 in overtime at the District 4B tournament in Huntley Project to advance to the Divisional Tournament March 1-3 at Billings Metra Park.

J-Hawks got a first-round bye and faced Shepherd in the second round on Friday, where they defeated the Mustangs 61-56.

Coach John Nelson said, “We split with them during the regular season so we knew we were in for a battle. We were able to grab a small lead in the 4th and Shepherd was forced to foul. The boys went 16-18 from the free throw line. The win put us in the championship game for the second year in a row against Roundup. We’ve had some great battles against Roundup in the last 2 years and this one did not disappoint. It was a good old fashioned slugfest the entire game and ended up tied to go to overtime. Roundup ended up winning 42-38 giving us sec-, ond.”

The J-Hawks’ season continues at Divisionals on March 1st at 5 p.m. against Lodge Grass in Billings.

Girls

The Lady J-Hawks opened their tournament with a 61-58 overtime win over Huntley Project on Feb 15.

Coach John Nelson called the win “one of their best games of the year.”

In their semi-final game, Roundup shot over 50 percent from the field for the game and Joliet had a mediocre shooting performance, losing 54-32.

“We struggled shooting and committed too many turnovers,” Nelson said.

In Saturday morning’s loserout game they held on to beat Shepherd 48-41 where Nelson said “we played a really good first half but struggled in the second.”

The lady J-Hawks played Columbus in the consolation game on Saturday afternoon.

“We got down in the first half but played a really good 3rd quarter. The 4th was back and forth with Columbus making one more play than us to win by two, 36-34. It was a heartbreaking way to end the season but I was extremely proud of the fight the girls showed. We played our best ball at the end and that’s all you can ask for as a coach.”
