Dear People of Laurel,

Thank you so much for the trust you put in me by voting for me to be mayor. I am only sorry that I was not able to fulfill that trust by serving you in that office. When I initially ran I was sure I would be able to serve if elected. After becoming aware of facts I didn’t know before, I realized that it would be a conflict of interest for me to be mayor and work for the city. I am sorry for any confusion any of my comments may have caused. Had I been told this information at the beginning of the election and of the council’s determination to not allow me to serve I would have withdrawn my name. Unfortunately the City chose not to inform me.  This effectively lead to the right of the people to have their voice heard being denied. This denial of rights was compounded by the City then choosing their own candidate for mayor. I made many calls and was unable to find someone willing or able to help clear up the mess. I was looking for a new job so that I could fulfill the trust put in me, but unfortunately that fell through ... Again, I’m sorry for any confusion or disappointment. I only hope we get a qualified candidate in the future who can help put the city back on track. Thanks again to all those who supported me.

Sincerely, Dave Waggoner
