Battlefield introduces new night sky program

In commemoration of the holiday season, Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument invites visitors to come and enjoy the park during the winter season.
On Friday, Dec. 15, the Monument will open its doors free to the public from 10 a.m, to 2 p.m. During this open house, a 15 percent discount on all items in the visitor center bookstore will be available throughout the day just in time for the holiday season. Refreshments will be served courtesy of Western National Parks Association.
The Monument will also be using this time to introduce our new night sky program. Night sky information will be available to the public and telescopes will be on display in the Visitor Center lobby area. For those interested, there will be night sky viewing available in the visitor center parking lot from 4:30 to 6 p.m. If anyone is interested in the night sky viewing that night, please contact the Monument at (406) 638-3214, 638-3217 or email at Rachel_vegors@nps.gov.
Winter hours are still in effect at the Monument. The visitor center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. The self-guiding tour road to the Reno-Benteen Battlefield is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Custer National Cemetery hours are commensurate with the visitor center. The 25 minute orientation DVD titled “Triumph and Tragedy Along the Little Bighorn” will be shown in the visitor center upon request. Federal recreation passports are available for sale at regular cost. The park will be closed on Christmas day and New Years day.
