Flying flotsum on First

Trying to keep Laurel’s streets clean with the non stop truck traffic hauling dirt to the new interchange construction sites seems nearly impossible. The amount of dirt clouding the air and obscuring the vision of drivers and pedestrians on Tuesday on First Ave. has got the street sweeping machine beat. At Tuesday evening’s council workshop meeting, Public Works Director Kurt Markegard said he had talked to Chief Police Rick Musson about the dirt and damage caused by the trucks earlier in the day. As it is a state project he learned complaints have to be made to the state Motor Carrier Services.
