Is this the year for a “real” Christmas tree?

When is the last time you had a “real” Christmas tree?
In our family, the last one was back in the early 1990s in Bonners Ferry and it was before kids.
This year we have decided to get a real tree not only to go back to nature but also to support our local Rotary Club and all the good it does.
As you may know, the McFate family is no longer selling Christmas trees from the lot on Highway 212, just south of Laurel.
The area where their tree lot and Fourth of July fireworks stand were located was sold and the family decided it was time to try something else.
The McFates reached out to Ace Hardware owner Skip King earlier this year to seek his advice. King, a Rotarian, asked the McFates if they liked the idea of having the Rotarians take over.
They did.
So starting on Black Friday, the Laurel Rotarians will be selling Christmas trees in Ace Hardware/Heidi’s Coffee Cabin parking lot.
You will find ads in the Ace sales flyer in the Outlook and in the mail with the hours, etc.
All the funds raised at the lot will stay in Laurel to help the Rotary Club fund scholarships, support local events, start a Laurel High School Hall of Fame and the many other good things Rotary does here.
The Rotarians are having an all hands on deck volunteer effort at the tree lot so what they may lack in expertise they will make up for in hustle.
If you are looking for an excuse to go back to a traditional, real Christmas tree, this is the year.
Not only will you have a great tree at a great price, you will be helping the Rotary Club continue to help our community.
