War is a racket

Answer to Alan Waddel letter to Editor of Nov. 2,  “Where was the President’s courage during wartime?”
I would ask why would you, in view of our government’s warmongering for the last 70 years, want to go to war?.
What was the purpose  for you and thousands more to go to war in Vietnam? You like killing, destroying other countries that never did anything to you or America?
As Major General Smedley Butler said in 1935, “War is a racket and it always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious”.
A racket is best described, I believe as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small “inside” group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.
From my knowledge of history I would say only the naive and the stupid go to war and since President Trump is neither and understands why our government politicians continually keep us in war.
I don’t either, as did over 90 percent of the people of Montana did not want to get involved in WWI  and just about as many in WWII.
