The J-Hawks defense sent the Engineers back to school and kept their undefeated season alive with a 50-12 victory in the rain on Friday in Joliet.
The J-Hawk defense scored three times in the first half on a 10-yard fumble return by Rylan Olson, a Caden Kirby 1-yard fumble return and a 50-yard pick-six from Justin Harris. They also held Harlo scoreless in the first half.
Coach George Warburton said the team played a solid game in spite of the rain and cool temperatures.
“We fired from all positions both offensively and defensively [...and] the offense did a good job moving the ball in the rain.”
Harris carried the ball five times for 69 yards, including a 50-yard TD run, and had 7 1/2 tackles on defense to go along with the interception return. Brett Robinson had seven tackles on and one TD on two carries, as well as four receptions totaling 65 yards. Wyatt Anderson had four carries for 41 yards. Kirby had 5 1/2 tackles to go along with his fumble recovery TD. Grant O’Rourke added three tackles and a sack. Olson also had 28 and 21-yard TD receptions in the first quarter.
The J-Hawks travel to Ennis on Friday to play the defending state champions. The Mustangs are 3-1 on the season after falling to Tri-City 48-28 on Sept. 9 in Moore.
Warburton said “We are looking forward to the challenge.”
