Montana Splendor season opener

The Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale’s 67th season opens with Montana Splendor, at the Alberta Bair Theater Saturday, Sept. 23. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. Concert Cues with Tom Singer begins at 6:45 p.m. Montana Splendor featuring the return of pianist Andrew von Oeyen, playing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 begins at 7:30 p.m.
The evening starts with Dimitri Shostakovich’s famous composition, the Festive Overture. Composed in 1954 for the 37th anniversary of the October Revolution, the Festive Overture has since become a standard piece for orchestras around the world. It is most notably remembered for being featured in the 1980 Summer Olympics.
During their visit to the Magic City, our guest artists will be working out in the community. Eric Funk will be working with students at Rocky Mountain College and MSU-Billings. A Master Class featuring Andrew von Oeyen, will be Friday, Sept. 22 at the Alberta Bair Theater. He will be working with Nicole Rodriguez, student of Sherlon Orth, playing Beethoven’s Variations on Nel Cor piu non me Sento, Caden Moore, student of Palma Woverton, playing Mozart’s Sonata in C Minor, Allegro, Emily Guthridge, student of Mary Folkman, playing Beethoven’s Pathétique, 2nd movement, and finally Tanner Jorden, student of Dorothea Cromley, paying Liszt’s Petrarch Sonnet 104.
