Laurel is improving in front of our eyes

Laurel Outlook Publisher

All it takes is a roundtable of business leaders, a top Realtor and a Rotary lunch to be reminded that Laurel has it going on.
It is too easy to look past Laurel to Billings to see what economic development and growth look like. While Billings and Bozeman are growing at a substantial pace, Laurel is slow and steady.
Realtor and Rotarian Ryan Mayes shared that Laurel residential sales are consistent and that there is a real need for affordable housing.
Laurel still sees real estate buyers ranging from retirees to families that want their children to go to school here.
A quick look around Laurel shows that activity is picking up.
Thomae Lumber is just finishing an outside remodel that is making it one of the best-looking buildings in town. Also on Main Street, the Eagles have cleaned up the front façade.
Western Security started the downtown revitalization when it built a new facility in a weedy, vacant lot. When it moved across the street, A Haus of Realty purchased Western Security’s building and are in the process of moving in there. A Haus’ building is listed for sale now.
Almost unnoticed was the completion of the Cenex convenience store on the west end of Main Street.
If a person drives around town, he or she is certain to see many homes being improved as well.
Just north of town dirt is moving right now to build a new north, south runway, which will help pilots land in all wind conditions.
The Outlook took a look at many of these projects and you will find photos and stories about much of what the Rotarians discussed.
Take a look around. Laurel is sprucing up.
You should also know that we have what appears to be a record number of ballots cast and businesses nominated in this year’s Best of Laurel contest. Look for a special edition soon.
