Joliet Cross Country is off to a good start after a successful meet in Livingston.
Coach Rachel Herrington said “every runner on the boys Joliet and girls CJ Roadrunners teams met qualifying times for state.”
To qualify for state girls have to run the 5K race in less than 35 minutes, and boys in less than 30.
Herrington said because they are still working on placing for the varsity team, all the boys ran JV.
Kendall Newton took second with a time of 19:40.
Senior Parker Smith, in his fourth year as a J-Hawk runner, finished in 21:39,
Dawson Bancroft, a senior who is running cross country for the first time, ran in at 22:03.
Brigham Smith posted 23:45; Triston Snell at 24:13; Raiden Ovitt at 25:37; and Riley Simons at 28:45.
For the CJ Roadrunners, freshman Jalyn Songstad posted the fastest team time at 27:43; sophomore twins Megan and Emily Deines, who are running cross country for the first time, came in at 27:54 and 28:27 respectively. Liz Lorash from Columbus finished at 29:41.
“It was an encouraging meet and we are excited to get this season started,” Herrington said.
