Dodgers eliminated from Eastern A with 6-4 loss on Sunday

The Laurel Dodgers season ended earlier than expected last weekend. They lost to eventual tournament winner Miles City in their opening game, then beat the Billings Blue Jays and Glasgow Reds to advance to the semi-final game, losing to the Billings Cardinals on Sunday after falling behind early.

Dodgers Manager Doug Studiner said the Dodgers left some guys on base, a reference to the bottom of the sixth inning when the bases were loaded with two outs and they were down two runs.

“We just weren’t able to get the hit,” Studiner said, which most likely would have scored the tying run.

The Cardinals scored four runs on a two-out rally in their first at bat.  After falling behind 5-1 in the middle of the second inning, the Dodgers outscored Billings 4-1 for the rest of the game but came up short in the end.

Kanyin Moran had two hits and an RBI in the game, with four other players adding a hit a piece. Deklan Harper and Brendan LeClair each had a hit and RBI.

Chase Feller pitched a complete game, giving up 10 hits and five runs while striking out four.

“We were a good ball club with a great group of young men. We gave it our all, it just wasn’t our turn. The kids gave everything they had and I’m proud of them,” Studiner said, adding “We will use this for fuel for next year” and, “we have a good group coming back.”
