Dodgers split with Billings

In their first game on Thursday, the Laurel Dodgers jumped out to an early 6-0 lead against the Billings Halos and never looked back, finishing them off after six innings for a 10-2 victory.

In the top of the first inning, the Dodgers scored six runs on two singles by Dawson Cortese and Kanyin Moran, a double by Carson West, a groundout by Brendan LeClair and a wild pitch.

Laurel had nine hits for the game, with Cortese and Carson Hoke each collecting multiple hits. Cortese went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Dodgers.

Cameron Schriver picked up the win, allowing two runs on three hits in six innings.

On Friday afternoon the Bozeman Bucks blanked the Dodgers 8-0 on a four-hit shutout by Bucks pitcher Alex Eckstrom.

Braden McIlvan, Chase Feller, Carson Hoke and Dawson Cortese each got one hit for the Dodgers, but they failed to score in the six-inning game.

Carson West pitched the loss for Laurel, pitching three innings and allowing seven runs on five hits.

In the Friday evening game the Dodgers scored seven runs in the fourth inning to overcome a 6-3 deficit, taking down the Belgrade Bandits 11-9.

In the fourth inning Noah Gunther’s drove in two runs on a bases loaded double, Dawson Cortese’s sacrifice fly scored one and three other Dodgers had singles. Bandit fielding errors resulted in two additional runs scored.

Chase Feller earned the win for the Dodgers surrendering nine runs on six hits through four innings and Carson Hoke held the Bandits scoreless for the last two innings to pick up the save.

Cortese and Carson West each drove in three runs for Laurel.

On Saturday evening the Dodgers took a 3-2 lead into the second inning before the Bitterroot Red Sox scored five runs and hung on to defeat Laurel 7-4.

In the bottom of the second, the Red Sox scored three of their five runs on Dodger errors.

Dawson Cortese led off the top of the third with a triple and scored on a Carson West double to pull within three, then neither team scored for the remainder of the game.

Cortese and West accounted for half of the Dodgers eight hits in the game.

The Dodgers faced the Bozeman Bucks for the second time in the tournament Sunday morning. They scored 8 runs in the game, but got shelled in the first and fourth innings, surrendering 10 and 12 runs, respectively.

Laurel committed 9 errors in four innings and gave up 25 runs.

Chase Feller went 2-3 from the plate to lead the Dodgers in hitting

Carson Hoke got the loss giving up 10 runs on six hits in one inning.

In the 5 p.m. game on Tuesday, the Laurel Dodgers took the Billings Cardinals to extra innings only to fall 8-7 in the contest.

The Dodgers out hit the Cards 11-8 but committed five errors to their opponents zero.

Chase Feller singled on an 0-2 count in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring two runs and tying the game.

In the top of the eighth, Max Egan of Billings hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the eventual winning run, after Laurel failed to score.

Dawon Cortese, Feller and Carson Hoke each collected multipe hits for the Dodgers, with Cortese going 3-4 with three runs batted in.

Carson West pitched seven innings and allowed seven runs on eight hits, striking out three.

In game two, the Dodgers took a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the fifth when they battered the Cardinals for nine runs and ended the game with a 14-4 victory.

Carson Hoke led Laurel at the plate, going 4-4 on three singles and a double.

The Dodgers had six hits and a walk in their nine-run fifth inning.

Five Laurel players had multiple hits and Dawson Cortese led with four rbi’s.

Cameron Schriver earned the win for the Dodgers with four runs and eight hits in five innings. He had two strikeouts.

Next up for the Dodgers is the Goldsmith Tournament at Dehler Park and Pirtz Field in Billings June 24-28.
