Dodgers pick up three of four games in Gillette Spring Classic

The Dodgers next home game is Sunday, June 11, when they face Miles City in a double header beginning at 1 p.m. at Dodger Field in Thomson Park.

The Laurel Dodgers American Legion baseball team split their Saturday games and won two on Sunday in the Gillette Spring Classic tournament in Gillette, Wyo. over the holiday weekend.

In their first game on Saturday, the Dodgers closed out Rapid City 16-8 in six innings after falling behind 1-0 in the second. They scored 13 runs in the fifth and sixth innings behind Chase Feller’s five run performance. Feller drove in three runs with a bases loaded triple in the bottom of the fifth. Deklan Harper also contributed three runs and Noah Gunther accounted for two. 

Cameron Schriver was the starting pitcher and Kanyin Moran earned the win for the Dodgers.

In the 7:30 p.m. game, Laurel scored no runs on five hits, falling to the Gillette Riders 6-0. Five Dodgers each got one hit. The Riders scored four runs in the fifth inning off a triple and two singles. Josh Kuhbacher pitched the shut-out for Gillette.

The Dodgers took both games on Sunday with identical 4-2 scores.

Facing the Gillette Rustlers in a noon matchup, Laurel scored in the second inning on a Josh Anderson single with two outs. They scored three in the third on an error, a Carson West double and a groundout by Chase Feller. The Rustlers rebounded with two runs in the bottom of the inning, then were held scoreless for the rest of the game.

Feller picked up the win, giving up two runs on two hits in five innings. He struck out four batters.

In the afternoon game against Jackson, Wyo.; Kanyin Moran, Chase Feller, Noah Gunther and Bradn McIlvain each contributed a run to lead Laurel to the 4-2 victory. 

Carson Hoke nabbed the win, throwing for six innings and giving up two runs on six hits, and collecting three strike outs.

Next up for the Dodgers are double headers in Belgrade, Glasgow and Sidney on June 3, June 5 and June 6.
