Dodgers start season with two walk off wins

The Laurel Dodgers finally got the season started on Sunday after the season opener slated for Saturday was rained out.

The Dodgers provided drama for the home crowd and they squeaked out two wins over the Cody Cubs, 9-8 and 12-11 both on walk offs.

 

In the opener, Carson Hoke doubled off Cody pitcher Heston Williams to lift the Dodgers from a 7-8 deficit to a 9-8 walk off win versus the Cubs.

 

Laurel 9, Cody 8

The Dodgers collected five hits and Cody Cubs had six in the high-scoring affair. The Cody Cubs took an early lead in the first inning.

After the Cubs scored three runs in the top of the third, Dodgers answered with three of their own. The Cubs scored when there was an error, scoring one run and Conner McLeod singled off of Carson West, driving in two runs. Dodgers then answered when there was an error, scoring one run and there was an error, scoring two runs.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Cubs tied things up at six. Keegan Brown’s sac fly scored one run for the  Cubs. The Dodgers scored three runs in the fifth inning. The big inning was thanks to a groundout by Chase Feller and an error.

Carson Hoke and Dawson Cortese each drove in two runs to lead Dodgers.

McLeod led Cody Cubs with two runs batted in. He went 1-for-4 on the day.

 

Laurel 12, Cody 11

The Dodgers defeated Cody Cubs 12-11 on Sunday thanks to a walk-off. The game was tied at 11 with Dodgers batting in the bottom of the ninth when Braden McIlvain hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run.

The Dodgers collected nine hits and Cody Cubs had 13 in the high-scoring affair

The Cubs took an early lead in the first inning. Cody Cubs scored one run when Jordan Wasia singled with one out in the first inning.    In the bottom of the eighth inning, Dodgers tied things up at 11. Keagan Campbell drove in one when he singled in the eighth inning.

The Dodgers scored six runs in the fourth inning. Dodgers’s big inning was driven by a single by Karson Zeiler, a error, and a error.

Braden McIlvain and Campbell each collected multiple hits for Dodgers. Campbell and McIlvain each collected two hits to lead Dodgers.

Conner McLeod, Cooper Brown, and Jared Grenz each collected multiple hits for Cody Cubs. Grenz led Cody Cubs with four stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with nine stolen bases.

The Dodgers travel to Dillon on Saturday and Bozeman on Sunday.
