Love to share your opinions, but…

From the Publisher
David Keyes
Laurel Outlook publisher

The Laurel Outlook editorial page should be the one place where all opinions are aired. At least that is our goal.
Some of you recognize that the Outlook has a signed opinion from me every week. Most of the time, it is my hope to raise up what is going on in the community and to spark debate. Oftentimes we use it to recognize much of the good that goes on here.
I sign my name on the opinions because I believe in accountability. As long as people are clear those are opinions on Page 4 and not straight news, all is well.
The problems start when people confuse opinion with straight news. Does this sound familiar on the national front as well?
We appreciate your opinions as well. Please send in letters and keep them around 200 words so we can fit as many letters in as possible. Please sign your letters and leave a way for us to contact you via phone or email to check if it is really you writing the letter. If they aren’t signed or we can’t contact you they won’t run.
We sign our opinions and ask that you do as well.
As I write this, I have three really well-written letters about the Laurel High School principal next to me that aren’t signed. That is where they will stay.
Letters to the editor are a great way to communicate and in the paper and online are some of the best-read parts of the paper.
Looking forward to seeing and sharing your thoughts soon.

David Keyes is publisher of the Laurel Outlook.
