Lady Locos get two must wins

Photo by GARRETT HARR. During last week’s home game against Glendive, all players, cheerleaders and fans participated in the red-out game by buying $8 dollar red-shirts for a good cause. Here the entire girls basketball team got into the caring spirit by wearing red shirts sponsored by the LHS National Honor Society.

LHS head coach Amber Griffith was pleased early on as her girls ran out to a 7-0 start to a 20 point 62-42 victory over Glendive last week.
The cheerleaders, Laurel players and many fans in attendance were wearing red shirts for the red-out game.
The National Honor Society provided shirts for the basketball team and cheerleaders and they sold them to fans during and after the game.
The game itself, did not disappoint.
Rylee Clark had her first 12 points from beyond the arc. Nothing but net on each release, even when she was fouled and had a chance for a four-point play.
The Laurel girls had another run deep into the third quarter as they ended it on a 27-6 scoring advantage over the Red Devils.
Aspen Cotter, Ellie Kildahl and Dakota Boehler all reached double digits and the girls started to show extreme confidence in themselves.

After Glendive the Locos needed another conference win against Sidney. It wasn’t as easy, but they got it with a 53-41 victory over the Eagles.
After a somewhat slow and uneven season up until about a week ago, the Lady Locomotives have come together at just the right time.
Dakota Boehler had another standout game and one of her best of the season with 18 points.
“Proud of the way our girls played this weekend and we were excited to get two big conference wins,” said LHS head coach Amber Griffith. “Looking forward to a great week of practice and another big win on Friday night against Billings Central.”
They need the momentum they have right now to follow them into tourney place. They got hot at just the right time and that’s all a coach can ask for.
They play Billings Central, in Laurel, on Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m.
