Park City went double-digits ahead in the first quarter of the game and the Rockets were unable to close the gap. The 41-17 halftime lead just grew and grew into a 74-38 victory for the Panthers.
The Rockets were smothered on the defensive end with Park City coming into the game averaging 15 steals a game, six of which came from Rylan Rauthier who had a nice all-around game with 11 points and five assists.
Connor McNeil and Talon Johnstone both cleaned up the glass with 13 and nine rebounds respectively. Johnstone also led his team in scoring with 19 points, making eight of the eleven shots he took during the night. Lane Lowell also put in double digits with 13 points.
“Defensively we are playing pretty well right now,” said coach Roger Heimbigner. “We have a long ways to go yet but each game we seem to be communicating more on the floor and the result is more opportunities for steals.”
The Panther’s offense is mainly coming from their amazing defense. Making steals and giving them the opportunity for fast breaks and easy high percentage shots has resulted in exciting high-scoring games.
“Offensively we are still struggling from the free throw line so we will spend some quality time over the Christmas break trying to remedy that,” said coach Heimbigner. “The kids are playing well together and are very unselfish. We don’t always finish at the basket and will need to do this and make free throws to win close games in the future.”
Their next game will be Jan. 5, at Bridger.
