Young Laurel team experiencing growth

Outlook staff writer
Outlook photo by Chris McConnell. Coach Jodi Alexander talks to the Lady Loco team between games at Laurel High School last Tuesday. The team has faced adversity this season due to injury, but Alexander says the younger players are experiencing growth.

Laurel volleyball dropped two matches last week and currently sits in 4th place in the Eastern A Conference, ahead of Miles City and Sidney.
The Lady Locos fell to Joliet in three games 15-25, 15-25, 19-25 at home last Tuesday, and then 20-25, 17-25, 18-25 at Miles City on Thursday.
Coach Jodi Alexander says the young team is experiencing growth, but has faced adversity through injuries.
“As a young team not having any seniors [we are] starting two freshman with one or two freshman coming off the bench, it has still been a successful season.  We are continually seeing growth as coaches on all different levels of play. Varsity continues to grow mentally through adversity and physically every time they have to adapt to their opponent. For a young team they are learning leadership early.”
Alexander said the dynamic of the team has changed due to injury.
“Our big injury was our Middle Hitter Kylee Foos early on in the season. Breaking a bone in her wrist was a tragedy, but younger athletes have worked extremely hard to fill a role. Her wrist is hopefully healing and we are waiting to see if she will be able to end her season on the court instead of supporting her teammates from the bench.”
The Loco’s next match is on Tuesday at Billings Central.
