Yellowstone elementary school cross country meet registration open

Thursday, September 10, 2020

The 12th Annual Yellowstone Elementary School Cross Country Meet will take place again this year, but with a twist. Instead of an in person event, each school can host their own 1–mile race for boys and girls in grades 3–5 from October 6 through October 31. Schools pick the day and one mile course on their own campus. For schools not hosting and event, participants can register individually for the race and run the one mile race on their own. Awards will be given to first, second, and third place. Participants will receive t-shirts, medals, bibs and certificates of completion. The event is FREE! Participants can register online

The top three in each age group, gender and at each school will receive Big Sky State Games medals. Also, Big Sky State Games will provide t-shirts and a gift to the first 500 registered. A traveling Spirit Trophy will be awarded to the school with the most participants per capita. The Team Top Dog Award will be awarded to the school with the most participation overall. Participants are encouraged to show their team spirit and wear their school colors.

The purpose of the meet is to introduce young people to a positive running experience. Cross Country is a sport where everyone can participate and individuals can experience success by meeting their personal goals. Last year the meet hosted 1,000 participants.

Major Sponsors of the race are Kohls Cares, St. Vincent Healthcare, Roger Daniel Insurance and ExxonMobil. Community Sponsors include Yellowstone Rim Runners and Time Out Sports. The meet is an event of the Big Sky State Games and supported by the Montana Women’s Run.
