LHS senior Grace Negrette stands with her mural helpers at MasterLube, including her mother, Kristi, and grandparents, Garalyn and Harlan Greenwood. Master-Lube’s Grad Day is Saturday, May 14. The event helps raise money for drug and alcohol-free graduation ceremonies. The Laurel MasterLube, 203 SE 4th Ave., will offer a car wash, barbecue, and oil changes from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Proceeds all go toward a graduation party to honor Laurel High School graduating seniors. Don’t forget to vote in the War of the Walls mural competition at masterlube.com. The winning mural will be announced on the MasterLube Facebook page on May 14. Despite rainy and windy weather and end-of-the-year projects to finish in school, the mural artists have been hard at work painting. The student mural artists, selected by their individual high schools, include Laurel High School, and Billings schools, West, Senior, Skyview and Central Catholic High School.

Grace Negrette and her family painted a realistic scene depicting a train navigating a steep rock canyon. Negrette said she used a projector to get the image on the wall. This is her first mural project, and Negrette said she was selected based on the quality of her original painting. “It’s pretty cool that I get to paint this. It’s definitely a bigger challenge than I thought it would be with the rough texture on the wall.”
