VFW Post 3177 Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy winners

From the left to right are the Patriot Pen winners. Taking second place, the winner of $75 is Sarah Thomae; the first place winner of $100, Grace Negrette also took second place in the District competition. The Post Commander is Bill Griggs. The Voice of Democracy winners are Zoe Thomae who won third place and $50; in second place Michael McCollum won $75; the first place winner was Austin Amestoy, who won $100 and also took first place in District. Since 1947 the Voice of Democracy has been the Veteran of Foreign Wars premier scholarship program. Each year almost 40,000 high school students compete for more than $2 million in scholarships and incentives. Students compete by writing and recording an audio essay on an annual patriotic theme. This year’s theme was, “My Responsibility to America.”
