Suspicious activity at hotel draws police response

The following represent a portion of the calls responded to by officers from the Laurel Police Department. Unless otherwise indicated, all cases are considered under investigation. Anyone with information about these or other crimes is encouraged to call the LPD at 628-8737.

Nov. 12

• At 12:30 p.m. officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at the Best Western. An employee discovered a room smelled of marijuana and the group was asked to leave. When officers arrived the suspects had left the area but their vehicle was still on scene. When officers ran the plate it came back stolen out of Billings. The owner of the vehicle arrived on scene and conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered a stack of drivers license’s and a key ring with dozens of keys on it. The scene was turned over to Billings PD.

• At 8:38 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on East Main and Alder. After an investigation Anthony Coggins, 31, of Laurel was charged with DUI and booked and released with a notice to appear.

Nov 16

• At 4:43 p.m. a theft was reported at ACE Hardware. When officers arrived the individual had left the scene but were able to identify the suspect through security footage. The incident is under investigation.
