Stanley Austin Kinney

Stanley Austin Kinney

Stan Kinney passed away on September 13, 2017. Stan was well known throughout the communities of Laurel, Park City, and Big Timber, Mont. He loved his family, his friends, and the outdoors.
Stan was born in Big Timber on April 25, 1938 to Albert and Edith (Rudd) Kinney. Stan never forgot his roots, and continually reminded his family to "never forget where you come from!" He valued true, honest, hard work and always supported, empathized and helped those less fortunate. Stan was an avid fly fisherman, hunter, farmer, gardener, and had a love of reading. Above all, he was a true Montanan. He instilled the love and appreciation of outdoors to several generations. He especially enjoyed spending time having a drink and a good laugh with friends!
Stan graduated from Laurel High School, attended Eastern Montana College, and served in the Army. He worked as a mail carrier/clerk and retired from the Laurel Post Office. After retiring he continued to farm and enjoyed selling beet seed, which involved great visits with farming friends. Stan will be remembered for his immense love and pride for his family, and especially for his unique sense of humor.
Stan Kinney is survived by: his loving wife and partner Patty Ennis of Laurel, his daughters Karen (Ron) Wood of Colorado Springs, and Kristy (Dan) Case of Helena. Stan's daughters are from a previous long-standing marriage with Agnes Ennis. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren: Ryan and Stephanie Wood; Madison and Nicholas Case; and many nieces and nephews, including special niece Tracey Kinney; and his beloved dog Annie.
Stanley Kinney is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jerry Kinney; and his sisters Alice Kern and Kay Nelson.
Visitation will be at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 5-7 p.m., and Friday, Sept. 22, from 8-10 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the Laurel United Methodist Church on Friday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at the Park City Cemetery. A celebration of Stan's life will follow at the Laurel Eagles Hall.
Memorials may be sent to charities supporting Parkinson's research, or the great Montana outdoors.
