Keeper Paige O’Toole had a chance recently to get out of the goal box and to keep her field player skills sharp.

The Laurel Locomotive girls’ soccer team started the conference season with a win and kept its record unblemished after a trip to Belgrade.
Laurel (7-0, 1-0) had a good game but coach Aloma Jess knows her team will have to play even better on Thursday when they host Billings Central.
The Locos controlled the field and pace of play Saturday and rolled to a 2-0 halftime lead.
Paige Ventling scored Laurel’s first goal eight minutes into the game on an assist by Lauren Schwab. Kaitlyn Dawes added another goal in the 15th minute on an assist from Gracey Willis.
Ventling scored her second goal in the 50th minute to account for all of Laurel’s goals.
Keeper Paige O’Toole had another strong game and had eight saves.
Laurel outshot Belgrade 12 to nine.
“It was a great start to our conference season,” said coach Jess. “Paige Ventling worked tirelessly to earn her two goals against the Panthers.”
The team has been working hard in practice to improve on issues the coach identified in practice and preseason.
“The communication is developing starting with Kaitlyn Dawes and extending out to Carlin McGrath and Paige O’Toole,” she said. “The true test of wills will come out this Thursday against Central. I have much confidence in these ladies to outperform their opponent.”
