Shop with a Cop Program brightens the holiday

Multi-agency event promotes goodwill

Laurel Police joined fellow officers in the first annual “Shop with a Cop” program on Saturday, Dec. 12 at MetraPark. University Police at Montana State University Billings sponsored the event.

Thirty local children partnered with an officer to do their holiday shopping at Walmart, complete with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Participating officers and children traveled in a caravan of patrol vehicles with lights and sirens as they drove to complete their shopping.

“Shop with a Cop” is a volunteer program designed to promote good will between law enforcement and families experiencing hardship.

Participating agencies include Billings Police Department, Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Marshals Service, Montana Fish and Game, Laurel Police Department, Montana Highway Patrol, and MSUB University Police Department.
