After 70 years in business, Schessler Ready Mix has sold the ready mix portion of its business to Croell Redi-Mix, Inc., a New Hampton, Iowa based company.

Herman “Ike” and Lois Schessler opened for business in the 1930s as an excavation business. In 1950, Schessler expanded the business to provide ready-mix concrete. In the 1950s, son Bob Schessler, and John Miller joined the business.

Bob Schessler and John Miller bought the business in 1972 and Schessler-Miller Ready Mix, Inc. was born. Bob’s wife, Joyce, and John’s wife, Rosalie, took care of the bookkeeping and dispatching. The Miller’s retired in 1992, and the name went back to Schessler Ready Mix. Their son, Rob Schessler, started part-time and became a partner in 1989. Rob’s wife, Julie, eventually began managing the office, as well as dispatching and batching. Rob and Julie’s son, Heston, is now a partner in the business, making it a fourth-generation locally owned company.

For the past six decades, the Schesslers have donated their time and equipment to the Laurel Chamber of Commerce to hang Christmas decorations that make Laurel “The City of Lights.” They are also proud to assist the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department when needed. They have donated resources to local and area schools and have sponsored various sports teams.

Rob, Julie and Heston Schessler will continue in business as Schessler Excavation & Septic Medic. The company will specialize in septic system installation. Rob and Heston Schessler are NAWT certified, and undergo continuing education each year. They are also licensed in multiple Montana Counties. Other services include: excavation, foundation excavation, septic repairs, cistern installation, site-prep, back-fill, ditching, road construction, snow removal, and hauling material. Croell, founded in 1968, is a third-generation company with over 120 locations in nine states. The company’s other Montana locations are Hardin and Broadus. Call 628-4642 when you are ready to order your concrete.
