Easter Sunday April 4, 2021 was a bright and sunny day in Billings, Montana when Robert “Bob” Dale Gierke, 64, of Laurel, Montana slowly slipped into his eternal slumber with his loving daughter Jocelyn, his big brother Timothy and sister-in-law Nancy by his side. Bob valiantly fought medical issues for many years. His mother found it poetic that he fell asleep on such a sunny day because when Bob was little, he was often found sound asleep in the rays of sunshine in peculiar places like the stairs or in a corner.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 16, 2021 at the Yellowstone National Veterans Cemetery in Laurel, Montana with full military honors and officiated by Pastor Bobo. Memorials may be given to the Veterans Charity of your choosing.

Bob was born in Fairview, Montana to Darrell Gierke and Rosie Schmitt Gierke on November 28, 1956. He graduated from Billings West High School Class of 1975. He was an Air Force Veteran having proudly served as an airplane mechanic in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Bob is preceded in death by his father, Darrell Gierke.

Bob is survived by his daughter Jocelyn (Lee) Hayworth of Billings; his son Joseph Gierke of Billings; his loving mother, Rosie Gierke of Billings; his older brothers: Phillip (Marcy) Gierke of Casper, Wyoming, Edward (Wendy) Gierke of Conrad, Montana, and Timothy (Nancy) Gierke of Havre, Montana; and his younger brothers: Scott (Jolene) Gierke of Shepherd, Montana, Peter (Vicki) Gierke of Huntley, Montana, and Jason Gierke (Billings/Butte, Montana). Bob is also survived by his only sister, Susan (Chris) Walters whom he lovingly called “His Pit Bull” for her ferocious protection of him while being his long-time caregiver. Bob is also survived by his grandchildren: Teagan Damjanovich, Jaxon Mock, and Holden Hayworth of Billings. Bob was a proud Uncle of numerous nieces and nephews especially his special relationship with nephew Chad (Ronda) Gierke of Great Falls, Montana, and niece Kristal (Robert) Sisco of Billings.

The Family of Robert “Bob” Gierke wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Nurse Teri of Riverstone Health, NP Tracy Miller and staff of the Veterans Community Based services, the staff of Visiting Angels and his numerous neighbors who all looked out for and cared for our brother over the years. A heartfelt thanks to the St. Vincent Health ICU and 3rd floor care team, especially Scarlet, for their compassion and support during this difficult season.

The Family is forever grateful for their sister Susan Walters for always being there with compassionate unconditional love to care for Bob for the past 20 years. A special thanks to Tim and Nancy Gierke for supporting Susan and assisting frequently in Bob’s care.

I will miss you always and thinking of you often with love Brother Bob. You knew I would be there in the end with open arms. Your little sister, Susan.
