Renner, Ludwig lead Locos’ state track efforts

Photo by Gloria Allwin. It’s a photo finish for Taylor Ludwig of Laurel as she won the state 100m by one-hundredth of a second.

The Laurel Locomotives not only hosted the State Class A tournament, they made a run at some team titles.
The boys accumulated 46 points to finish fifth and the girls finished fourth with 39 in an exciting meet that packed the stands and brought hundreds of visitors to Laurel.
Sidney’s depth was evident in the running and field events and the Eagles easily won the title over second-place Dillon by 25 points.
Laurel’s Isiaiah Renner finished first in the long jump with a 22-5 ¾ effort. Jared Craig finished third in the event with a 21-1 effort.
Other points for the boys came from:
• Levi Taylor, third in the 1600 with 4:31.21.
• Levi Taylor, second in the 3200, with 9:50.97.
• Chris Abell, fourth in the 110 high hurdles, with 16.25.
• Jared Craig, sixth in the 110 high hurdles, with 16.42.
• 400 relay placed fourth at 44.34.
• Isaiah Renner, placed sixth in the triple jump with 42-1.5.
• Casey Cole, placed second in the javelin, with 193-10.
• Ely Kraft, placed fourth in the discus, with 143-1.
• Jared Craig, placed sixth in the pole vault ,with 13-0.
Team scores: Sidney 90, Dillon 65, Belgrade 59, Columbia Falls 58, Laurel 46, Corvallis 35, Lewistown 34, Miles City 31, Polson 21, Glendive 20, Hamilton 19, Frenchtown 17, Hardin 11, Butte Central 10, Livingston 7, Whitefish 4.

The Laurel girls battled some injuries but still made a strong showing. Sprint sensation Taylor Ludwig was dealing with leg issues and was slowed but still won a state championship in the 100 meters with a 13.21 time. She nudged a pair of Dillon runners who finished at 13.22 and 13.31.
Ludwig also finished second in the 400. She opted out of the long jump due to injuries.
Other points for the girls came from:
• Third in the 4x100 relay.
• Third in the 4x400 relay.
• Paige O’Toole, third in the discus, 132-06.
• Paige O’Toole, sixth in the javelin, 114-11.

Team scores: Belgrade 80, Corvallis 63.50, Dillon 57.50, Laurel 39, Hamilton 34.50, Butte Central 34, Glendive 33, Stevensville 31, Frenchtown 26, Columbia Falls 26.
