Rabbi Erik Uriarte lights a candle in honor of one of the four chaplains that died while rescuing civilian and military personnel as the troop ship SS Dorchester sank on February 3, 1943, after being torpedoed by a German submarine.The four chaplains were Methodist minister Rev. George L. Fox, Remorm Rabbi Alexander D. Goode, Catholic priest Father Jaohn P. Washington and (Dutch) Reformed Church Rev. Clark V. Poling. Faith leaders and Laurel American Legion Post 123 honored the men’s heroics at the Laurel United Methodist Church on Feb. 3.
