Rayna Laakso awarded Henckel scholarship

Rayna Laakso

Rayna Laakso, a recent Park City High School graduate, is the recipient of the 2017 “Marketing your path” scholarship. It is given in the name of Mark Henckel who lived in Park City. He was the Outdoor editor for the Billings Gazette for 39 years before his death. Henckel worked many jobs at the newspaper from obituary writer, ambulance chaser, to sports writer, feature writer, desk editor and finally his dream of outdoor writer. He used his belief that every person has the chance to “make a mark” in his job and in Montana. One person can make a difference.
This scholarship honors a senior who illustrates the ability to see a challenge and step forward and handle it. Then taking that challenge and influencing their peers and others through their actions. With that they “marked their path.” Laakso had some tough challengers in her life at home and school and used them to make her a remarkable young lady. She plans on going to Rocky Mountain College to pursue a degree in biology. She will receive a 500 dollar scholarship for her college tuition.
