Since school was relegated to online classrooms state-wide in March, parents, teachers and school staff have been wondering how their young charges will be educated this fall. On Tuesday, Laurel Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Linda Filpula released a statement outlining the possibilities.

“We are in the process of developing our Reopening Plan for the start of the 2020-21 school year and hope to have something to share with you by the end of July,” she wrote. “We are developing three plans to prepare for the upcoming school year: all students at school/on-site, all students online/offsite, and a blended model with an A/B schedule wherein students alternate between attending school at school/onsite for a day and the next day attend online/offsite.” While the plans as of now aren’t very definitive, the superintendent said they have to cover all contingencies.

“To assist you in planning for next school year, at this point, I can tell you that we are working toward starting the school year with all students, at school/ onsite five days a week,” she continued. “We recognize and acknowledge that this will not be possible for some of our students and staff so we are also pursuing an option for online/ remote learning for students and staff at the beginning of the year.

“We appreciate your patience as we problem solve the different aspects to this plan. Once the plan is completed and shared with parents/guardians, a survey will be sent out to families to further assist us in planning for the start of the year.”
