Police Report - 5/25/17

Spring fever hits middle school

The following represent a portion of the calls responded to by officers from the Laurel Police Department. Unless otherwise indicated, all cases are considered under investigation. Anyone with information about these or other crimes is encouraged to call the LPD at 628-8737.

• On May 16, at 9:56 a.m., a teacher at the middle school reported that students were creating a problem in the hallway. An officer spoke to the students and issued a warning.
• On May 16, at 5:16 p.m., a theft was reported on the 500 block of 8th Ave. by the city. After city employees turned water off for non-payment, the resident turned it back on. Matt Welch, 34, of Laurel, was cited for theft of labor and services.
• On May 20, at 11:02 a.m., a city vehicle was damaged by a vandal who broke out a window. Officers have suspect information. An investigation is on-going.
• On May 21, at 3:18 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 300 block of W. Main St. for a disturbance. Zachary Wajer, 26, of Laurel, was cited for disorderly conduct.
• On May 21, at 6:41 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Topeka Dr. Donald Williams, 63, was cited for violation of an order of protection.

Stillwater County
• On May 19, at 12:41 a.m., an intoxicated male attempted to purchase alcohol at the Park City Zip Trip. After the employee refused to sell to him, he called the employee a racist. The caller stated he will be requesting a no trespassing order against the male.
• At 1:01 a.m. on May 19, a deputy conducted a traffic stop near mile marker 426 on Interstate 90. The male was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to the Stillwater County Sheriff’s department.
• 911 dispatch received a report on May 19, at 8:35 p.m., concerning a white pickup swerving on I-90 near mm 429. At 8:53 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
• At 1:02 p.m. on May 20, Park City and Columbus ambulances responded to a report of possible alcohol poisoning at a Laurel address.
• On May 20, at 5:36 p.m., a Park City resident reported an individual in a black pickup shooting at birds on power lines. The caller stated that the subjects shot at their residence while they were outside. A sheriff’s deputy responded and was unable to locate the truck.
• A caller requested a welfare check on an individual walking down I-90 at mm 426 on May 20, at 5:46 p.m. A Montana Highway Patrol officer responded.
• On May 20 at 7:58 p.m., 911 dispatch received a complaint about a male harassing customers at the Park City Zip Trip. A deputy responded. At 8:07 p.m., the same caller advised that the responding deputy had the subject on the ground and needed assistance. Multiple units responded and two subjects were taken into custody.
• At 7:39 p.m. on May 21, 911 dispatch received a call from a female who found her front door open and a strange coat in the entryway. At 8:13 p.m. the caller reported that her ex-husband rents the upstairs of her residence and the coat belonged to his girlfriend. The caller stated she feels uncomfortable around the girlfriend, who she claimed had suicidal tendencies and was an active drug user. The caller was advised on civil action procedures.
• At 10:42 p.m. on May 21, a caller reported a possible accident on Highway 10. The caller thought a car may have went off the road because they saw headlights in a field. Officers responded at 11:03 p.m. and found no sign of an accident.
• On May 22, at 2:29 a.m., a caller reported a possible overturned vehicle at mm 421 on I-90. An officer responded and reported a flatbed trailer pulled well off the highway, which posed no hazard.
