Panthers suffer tough loss in season-opener

A scoreless first quarter was the only thing standing between the Park City Panthers and an upset victory to open the 2014 football season Saturday night in Park City.

Opponent White Sulpur Springs led 8-0 after the first quarter and did just enough over the final three quarters to hold off the Panthers 46-42.
The Hornets took an early lead on a 47-yard strike from Haggen to Neihart — the first of four scoring passes thrown by Haggen — in the first quarter.
Park City responded, however, as Connor May scored from four yards out before Ty Robbie hooked up with Grant McNeil from four yards out to put the
Panthers up 14-8 midway in the second quarter. But Haggen gave the Hornets the lead for good with a four-yard touchdown toss to Idso late in the half.
Mason Moe added a pair of touchdowns as he hauled in a 10-yard pass from Robbie as well as a 2-yard toss in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers scored 14 points in each of the final three quarters, but couldn’t overcome their scoreless start.
