Two Park City Panther athletes running in the 400 meter run in Laurel last month.

After sending a couple of athletes to the Midland Top 10 meet last week, the Joliet J-Hawks and Park City Panthers met up at the Laurel Sports Complex to help host the Stillwater Track Meet in Laurel. This meet was in memorial of Al Walker, the late, legendary coach who taught and coached for over five decades in Absarokee.

Joliet’s boys placed in the top 10 for total team points in this meet. They took tenth exactly, leading Park City by just 1.5 points, with a grand total of 25.5. Joliet’s girls scored just five points, but it was good enough for an 18th place finish.

Park City’s girls did not gain any points in this meet, as they did not have any girls place in the top six of any events. The boys took 11th on the day with 24 total points.

Joliet’s top performers came from their jumpers. Head coach Sam Antilla said at the beginning of the year that her jumping program was very good, and she was proven right in this meet.

Senior track star Ry Olson took first in the high jump with a jump of 06-04. Junior Caleb Bailey trailed him by six inches, placing sixth with his own PR of 05-10. Bailey also took second in the triple jump, and eighth in the long jump.

Sophomore Wyatt Anderson took sixth in the long jump and was the highest placer of the Joliet boys in the long jump, shot put, and the discus.

The Lady J-Hawks gained all of their team points from the field events. Sophomore Brooke Miller led the way for the Lady J-Hawks, placing fourth in the discus with a PR of 104-01.50. She also placed eight in the shot put. Kallie Zinne placed sixth in the long jump for Joliet.

The majority of the Park City boys’ team points came from the track, as there were quite a few personal records set as well. Starting with Garrett Zimdars, he was all over the track at the Stillwater Meet. First off, he set his PR in the 400 meter run, placing second, and finishing with a time of 52.82. He also took ninth in the 100 meter dash, and tenth in the long jump.

Junior Corbin Downing placed fifth in the 200 meter dash, setting a new personalbest time with a sprint of 23.85 seconds. Downing also was in the 4x400 meter relay team that placed fourth.

The girls did not place well at this meet, due to the low volume of Lady Panther track-letes.

Amongst the girls that are on the team, junior Alexis Goldy participated in quite a few events. She placed seventh in the 100 meter hurdles, setting her PR of 18.46 seconds. She also placed 11th in the 300 meter hurdles and 17th in the shot put, setting another PR with her 28-03.00 throw. Freshman Tasha Dedmore set a pair of personal records at this meet, as well. She placed 16th in the 800 meter run and 18th in the 400 meter run, setting her PR in both events.

The next track meet for the Joliet J-Hawks and the Park City Panthers will be this weekend, Friday, May 10, in Laurel for the District 4B/6C Track Meet. This meet will be the first post-season meet of the year for the J-Hawks and the Panthers. The first events start at 8:30 for the Boys
