New publication day for Outlook

As of Oct. 2, the Laurel Outlook will shift its publication to Thursday. That means the Sept. 24 edition will be the last Wednesday edition for the community newspaper.

Why the change?

“This will help us do what’s really important and do it better,” said Managing Editor Jennifer Ries, “that is, provide comprehensive, local news in a timely fashion.”

In particular, Ries noted the later publication date will allow the Outlook to report city council news two days following the meeting, instead of a week or more after the fact.

“This will inform our readers of issues prior to a vote so they can better participate in city government,” she said.

Additionally, Outlook reporters will be able to cover Tuesday night sports and report elections with improved accuracy, no longer having to print stories before races close.

“We feel the Thursday publication date will facilitate a more complete package for Outlook readers,” she said. “Avid sports fans waiting for results should follow our Facebook and Twitter feed. We’ll post scores there as games unfold. Then turn to our print edition for the full story and photos on Thursday.”
