NAPA wins award for best auto parts store

Family owned and operated Napa Auto Parts won the Outlook’s Best of Laurel contest for best auto parts store. Opened in 1986, by Jim Horton, NAPA has been a constant in the community for over 30 years. The store is now owned and operated by father and daughter Jim and Jenny Horton.

Almost 30 years ago Jim and a partner got financing to open the store, but the partner bailed, leaving Jim to handle the business solo. That turned out to be a blessing in disguise and now the store is Laurel’s most trusted and respected auto parts store. And, as with any successful local business it all starts with the people.

Jenny explained the success and admiration customers have for the store. “It starts with the people who work here,” she says. The store has a full staff of very knowledgeable dedicated professionals. That includes an employee only known as Mr. Napa, a human encyclopedia of all things inside and outside the store.

Although Jenny tends to be shy and equally humble, she is among Laurel’s most charitable people.

She started working at the store at just 14 years old. Four years later she was working full-time at the store, while also attending night and online classes at MSU Billings to finish her degree in business.

Jenny also owns the U Store It storage units. She and her father not only run the store, but they also sell large trailers, which can be seen outside.

Every year, the duo raffles off a trailer to benefit a needy organization in the community. Last year’s gift went to the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department. The Hortons feel it’s important as members of the local business community to support high school sports teams as well. They’re proud to sponsor teams in both Laurel and Park City. Their business expertise and generous nature makes it very easy to see why they were voted number one in Laurel.
