The Lady J-Hawks are still finding their way mid-season, but are showing signs of improvement. There’s no better example than their five-point victory over the Red Devils, 35-30 on Jan. 20.
“I think we are starting to really get it together,” said Joliet head coach John Nelson.
The girls were tied 16-16 at the half with Huntley Project, setting themselves up for a nail-biting ending of a game.
Shayla Webber had eight-points and Dani Nordinger led the way with 10.
“The girl’s district tournament is up for grabs in my opinion so hopefully we can continue to improve and play our best basketball at that time,” said Nelson.

Huntley Project 7 9 4 10 — 30
Joliet: Tayler Wright 6, Shayla Webber 8, Vanessa Nowak 7, Tysa Oswald 2, Dani Nordinger 10, Hollie Nowak 2.
Huntley Project: Heidi Cranford 8, Loran Murphy 4, Maggie Taylor 3, Julia Little Wolf 4, Shayna Richard 2, Madison Rohrer 9.

The Joliet girls hung on most of the game, even submitting a late game push, but eventually fell short 56-52 to Lodge Grass one day after their win against Huntley Project.
Both close games, but different end results. The girls moved to a 5-7 record after the loss.
“We didn’t shoot well,” said Joliet coach John Nelson. “We made a good run in the fourth, but ran out of time. The girls battled all night.’
They did. Shayla Webber was outstanding. She fell just shy of 30 as she led both teams in scoring with 27 points. It just wasn’t quite enough. Dani Nardinger put in 11 in the heartbreaking loss. The close ones hurt just as bad as the blowouts.
They return home for their next game after completing a three-game road trip.
The J-Hawks play tonight at home, against Columbus at 6 p.m.
