MSUB Extended Campus offering Business Clinic

In order to help local employers keep abreast of the ever-changing landscape of business laws and regulations, Montana State University Billings Extended Campus will once again be hosting the Montana Department of Labor and Industry Assistance for Business clinic.
The clinic takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Wednesday, June 28, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the MSU Billings Library.
Kay Strayer, state coordinator for the Montana Department of Labor and Industry, will teach the clinic.
This event will include presentations on the status of state and federal employment laws, ranging from wage and hour regulations to workers’ compensation.
The clinic is specially designed to assist new and established employers, accountants, bookkeepers, human resource professionals and lawyers by providing a broader understanding of employment-related laws and how to implement the latest changes to various laws, rules and regulations.
Extended Campus Workforce Development Coordinator John Walsh said learning what is new is critically important during years when the State Legislature meets and when there is a new administration in Washington D.C.
“Learning what’s new and understanding what has changed is increasingly time-consuming, but necessary, to assure businesses comply with employment-related laws,” Walsh said.
Additionally, Walsh said that with so many changes to the law, employment-related lawsuits have increased 400 percent.
“When I hear the news, its seems like there is an increasing number of employment-related complaints, challenges and lawsuits making headlines. We constantly hear information about proposed laws and regulations and changes to existing laws regarding employment,” he said.
The cost of the clinic is $45 and includes lunch. Enrollment is limited. For more information, visit the Assistance for Business webpage.
