Outlook photo by Chris McConnell. Laurel Fire and Rescue personnel return to the area after searching the strainers along the Yellowstone River for a man who was last seen standing in a foot of water at the Buffalo Mirage fishing access on Wednesday afternoon. The man was later found at a house and it was determined he had left the scene while the reporting party was chasing after her dog.

A report of a missing male at the Buffalo Mirage fishing access site between Laurel and Park City brought about a dozen law enforcement, fire and search and rescue personnel to Sportsman’s Park on Wednesday afternoon.
A female reported she last saw her companion standing in about a foot of water on the east side of the gravel bar. She said she had chased after her dog into the trees and when she returned, the male was gone. Approximately 90 minutes later she called for assistance.
By 5 p.m. the parking area was full of law enforcement and rescue vehicles and a sheriff’s department boat was checking the sweepers along the north shore.
The search ended shortly afterward when the man was located off-site.
Yellowstone County Sheriff Mike Linder said the man had apparently left the area when the female was distracted and never fell in the water.
“We had a boat come up [the river] from Laurel and search and rescue was staging. They were called off when the male’s father found him at a house,” Linder said.
