Lonny Robert Frickel

Lonny Robert Frickel

Lonny Robert Frickel passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on September 26th,2020.

He was born in Billings MT on October 7th, 1954 to Harold and Rosemary (Toots) Frickel.

Lonny was a standout player for the Laurel Locomotive basketball team that won the state championship in 1972.  After he graduated from high school, he played basketball on a scholarship for Butte Tech. He came back to Laurel and started work for the Burlington Northern Railroad and then continued with Montana Rail Link. During these years he helped coach softball, along with his good friend Terry Bummer, for two of his sisters that went to regionals in Seattle in 1978, as well as playing for many years for the Palace softball team himself. He had a great passion for basketball, softball, hunting, fishing and for many years played pool for the Caboose Saloon. Through these activities he met many good friends which he kept throughout his life. Being very family orientated he loved his nieces and nephew, great nieces and nephews and delighted in teasing them relentlessly.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his sisters, Karla (Rod) Riesinger, Rhonda (Bruce) Lefler and Robin (Don) Schultz. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, family and friends who will miss him greatly.

Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be placed in an urn made from the floor boards taken from the old gym at L.H.S, made by his friend Leonard Wombolt.

A special thanks is given to his Aunt, Lori Cooney, for her loving care throughout the years. Also, many thanks are given to Stillwater Hospice and the staff at Laurel Tendernest for their compassionate care.

There will be a graveside service at the Laurel Cemetery on October 7, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Memorials in Lonny’s name may be made to Stillwater Hospice or the Special K Ranch in Columbus. Condolences may be shared at www.smithfuneralchapels.com.
