The Laurel Locomotive softball team took home a win during senior night against Miles City and competed well at the Butte Invitational over the weekend.

Laurel vs. Miles City
The Lady Locos celebrated senior night by soundly beating Miles City 7-2 in their last home game of the season on May 12. The team started strong with a hit and run from junior Hailey Maurer in the first inning. Laurel continued to pull away from the Cowgirls throughout the next six innings, gaining three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings for a final 7-2 victory.
In total, Laurel put in nine hits for seven runs and no errors. Miles City matched Laurel with nine hits, but were unable to turn those into runs against the Locos. The Cowgirls finished the game with two hits and two errors. Seniors Hailey Ogle, Jade Spooner, Josie Hillis, Paige Hodges, Kayla Braden, Brenna Kanta and Kaylee Wommack were recognized by their teammates, family and friends for contributing to the softball program throughout their high school careers.

Laurel at Butte Invite
The Locomotives faced a tough tournament Friday and Saturday at the Butte Invitational. The team went 1-3 over the course of two days, beating Havre but falling to Butte Central, Columbia Falls and Florence. The Locos started the tournament with a tough loss against Butte Central, 16-0. Laurel was able to get in three hits but were unable to get past the Maroons for a run. They came back in their second game to pull a decisive win over the Havre Blue Ponies 15-6.
On Saturday, Laurel narrowly lost to Columbia Falls 7-6. Laurel put in five hits for six runs, but couldn’t quite edge out Columbia’s Falls 11 hits and seven runs. In their last game of the day, Laurel lost to Florence 12-8. During the game Laurel put in 12 hits and eight runs, outmatched by Florence’s 15 hits and 12 runs.
