The Locomotive varsity basketball teams are putting everything they have been working towards to the test finishing off the regular season. Both the boys and girls teams beat Miles City and Sidney last week. The boys beat Sidney on Friday 70-52, while the Lady Locos winning score against the Eagles was 61-38. The next day against the Cowboys, the Locomotives racked up even more points for another easy win for each Laurel team. The Locomotive boys beat the Cowboys 73-59. The Miles City defense could not stop Emmet Runner of Laurel who had 31 points in the game. The girls had a high scoring game of 76-43, leaving the Cowgirls in the dust.

The Lady Locomotives matched up against conference rival Billings Central on Tuesday at home. It was also Senior Night, and lone senior Sammi Spitzer was recognized. This was their last game before starting Divisionals next week. They were defeated by the Rams by 30 points as Laurel’s tenacity grew thin over the course of the game, but this was only their sixth loss of their 18 regular season games. The final score was 34-64, but regardless, Laurel still had a large crowd of fans cheering them on all the way out.

The boys play against Central tonight at home, still holding onto their last two-game winning streak after five losses in a row before playing Sydney and Miles City. They were defeated by Central only a few weeks ago, so the results of the game tonight surely will set the tone for the Locomotive boys going into Super Divisionals next week.
