LMS wrestlers take 2nd in State

On Saturday, March 7, the Laurel Middle School wrestling team brought 32 wrestlers to the Montana Middle School State Championships in Lewistown. Laurel had 23 wrestlers in the varsity meet and nine in the JV meet. Out of 41 teams from across the state, Laurel placed second with 267 team points. Amongst their wins, Laurel had two varsity first-place champions in their respective weight classes: Ashton Ulschak at 110 pounds and Elijah Nose at 85 pounds. In the boys’ first-place matches, Ulschak won by fall (1:03) over Karson Pumnea from Butte and scored 34 team points. Nose won by decision (4-0) over Makael Aguayo of the Team Champs, and scored 32 team points. Laurel lost the state title by only 20 points to Team Champs who took first place with 287 team points, and Butte took third with 178.5 team points. Followed are the results for all 32 middle school wrestlers from Saturday.
