LHS Drama team: Eastern A Drama Divisional Champions

The LHS Speech, Drama, and Debate squad attended the Eastern A Divisional Tournament this past weekend hosted virtually by Billings Catholic Central High School. The tournament was attended by eight class A schools in the eastern Montana division: Laurel, East Helena, Sidney, Custer Co. of Miles City, Fergus Co. of Lewistown, Havre, Park of Livingston and Billings Central. The speech and debate team took second just behind Billings Central in the Class A Speech Sweepstakes but the Locomotive drama squad clinched the Class A Drama Championship defeating Sidney High School by a comfortable 25 points. All Laurel High School competitors have earned their berth at the state tournament this upcoming weekend hosted virtually by Sidney High School.

Individual event divisional champions were Thomas Amestoy, 1st in informative speaking and Adam Sutton, 1st in humorous interpretation. Other finalists earning team points were Jenna Scott, 2nd in original oratory; Regan Harris, 2nd in Lincoln Douglas Debate; Ethan Chatwood and Everett Hilliard, 2nd in policy debate; Liam Bickel, 3rd in extemporaneous speaking; Tazsia Brester, 3rd in memorized public address; Sarah Thomae and Ava Fox, 3rd in public forum debate; Easton Kyhl, 4th in Lincoln-Douglas debate; Sara Bocquin, 3rd in impromptu speaking and 6th in extemporaneous; Shae Goeke, 4th in extemporaneous speaking and 5th in impromptu speaking; Jered Jares and Reegan O´Rear 5th in public forum debate; Aidan Peers, 7th in Lincoln-Douglas debate and Madi Nevin, 9th in dramatic interpretation.

Divisional champion Abigail Molm in pantomime topped the performance for the drama squad. Molm also placed 3rd in dramatic theatre with partner Katie LeBrun. Other drama finalists were Ava Arrowsmith and Bergen Handegard 2nd in dramatic theatre (also 2nd in humorous solo); Caitlyn Morgan, 3rd in humorous solo; Lauren Johannsen, 3rd in dramatic solo; Morgan Rollman and Emmersyn Thompson, 3rd in classical theatre, Ava Arrowsmith and Katie LeBrun 4th in classical theatre; Brett Larkins, 4th in humorous solo; Rachel Thompson and Hailey Vondal 5th in humorous theatre (also 3rd in pantomime); Alana Sandmeier and Rachel Thompson 4th in classical theatre; Morgan Rollman, 4th in pantomime; Madison Bratton, 6th in dramatic solo; Chloe Mauer and Mattison Mickelson, 6th in humorous theatre and Emmersyn Thomas, 7th in dramatic solo.

Coaches Liz Schwartz, Doug Andersen, and Dan Porisch are extremely proud of the Laurel High School speech, drama and debate team and all their accomplishments this season and are especially grateful to all the judges in the Laurel community who have volunteered their time this season and made each tournament a success.
