LHS Class of 2020 commencement exercise schedule of events on Sunday, May 24

Thursday, May 21, 2020

10:30–11:00 a.m. – Graduates arrive to staging area near Thompson Park.

• Parking for graduates will be along the streets and avenues on the south side of Thompson Park.

11:45 a.m. – Graduates line the sidewalk on the west side of Thompson Park for the drive–by well–wishers in a parade style format.

• Graduates will stand in the designated circles on the sidewalk that are six feet apart.

• Graduates will wear caps, gowns, cords and honor medals at this time.

12 p.m. – Guests will be allowed to enter the stadium and make their way to ASSIGNED seats.

• Event staff will assist guests to their seats.

• Event staff will discourage group gatherings throughout the stadium.

• Event staff will monitor bathroom usage in accordance with guidelines from the county.

• Event staff will sanitize high traffic handrails and high touch surfaces frequently throughout the ceremony.

• Guests will stay in their assigned area throughout the event with four people maximum per assigned group spot.

12:30 p.m. – Graduates will make their way to the stadium entrance.

• Graduates will split to enter the stadium with students A–M entering on the east side and N–Z on the west.

1 p.m. – Graduates enter stadium and take seats as assigned.

1:05 p.m. – Ceremony begins.

• No live music from the band or choir.

• Guest speakers

• Salutatorian and Valedictorian speeches

• A gloved staff member will set each student’s diploma on a stand so they can receive their diploma without contact.

• The traditional rose ceremony will take place at the end of the ceremony.


Ceremony Exit and Dismissal

• Graduates will be dismissed during a recessional to return directly to the original staging area.

• Graduates will receive a rose from a gloved event staff member as they exit the stadium.

• Families will exit with staff dismissal and will need to proceed directly to their vehicles.

• No group gatherings will be allowed following the ceremony. Guests will be asked to leave immediately.


Riverstone Health Requirements

In order to ensure the health and safety of our graduates, staff and guests; do not attend graduation if you are ill.

• Do not attend graduation if you are experiencing fever, cough, difficulty breathing, chills, body aches, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea or changes in your ability to taste or smell.

• If you are sick, stay at home and watch the live stream online.


Live Stream

The ceremony will be live streamed through the NFHS online system. Go to www.nfhs. org and search for “Laurel High School, MT” on the top of the home page.

Note: All plans are at the discretion of the COVID–19 expectations in place at the time of the event. The event could be cancelled or moved to a different format in the event of orders from the county or state.


Alternate graduation plans

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the gymnasium. Plan A:

• Stage will be set up as usual.

• NO guests will be allowed in the gym for the modified ceremony.

• The ceremony will be live streamed through the NFHS system.

• The guests speakers will give their speeches.

• Graduates will walk across the stage to receive diplomas.

• Graduates will leave immediately following the last diploma conferring.


Plan B:

• Stage will be set up in the gym with no guest speakers.

• Only diplomas will be conferred.

• A car parade with the graduates in cars will begin at a to– be–determined location and proceed to the high school.
