JW Hopper prepares for Laurel Safety Day in June. Every June the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department hosts a fun day for kids and families to learn about the work of first responders and how to stay safe. There are a number of agencies involved including other fire, police and ambulance departments, as well as extrication demonstrations and police dogs.

Everyone is invited to the LVFD hall for their annual open house, Wednesday, Oct. 10, 6-9 p.m. Check out fire trucks, equipment and protective gear. Firemen will demonstrate an extrication from a damaged car, something they do frequently to save lives. Support the LVFD and visit them at Laurel’s Public Safety Complex, located on the corner of 3rd Avenue and First Street West.
