Laurel science teacher to give commencement address

Tara Moon

Laurel High School’s 2018 commencement address speaker is high school science teacher Tara Moon. She is originally from Forsyth and was the valedictorian of her 2007 graduating class. After graduating from Carroll College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a minor in math, she attended graduate school at MSU-Billings, earning her Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.

She has been a full-time teacher since 2014 and previously did her student teaching in the Laurel School district. She was also a long-term sub before being hired as full-time staff.

She had her first child last

summer and stays busy raising her daughter with her husband.

She taught Chemistry and Physics this year and Biology and Environmental Science last year.

Speaking of the Class of 2018, she said “There are lots of charismatic kids. They are a good bunch and have made an impression on me. It will be hard to not have them here next year but I’m excited for their future.”

The commencement ceremony begins in the high school gym at 1 p.m.
