Laurel Police doesn’t collect for IRS

A new scam has been reported to the Laurel Police Department. Apparently, the scammers are altering the caller ID to make it appear incoming calls are from the LPD non-emergency number (628-8737). The callers identify themselves as police officers and demand payment. Citizens need to be aware that the IRS or law enforcement will never use this approach to collect back taxes, or any monies. Laurel police officers do not work for the IRS and do not directly call taxpayers looking for payment of any kind. If anyone receives these calls or any other suspicious ones, they can call the LPD at 628-8737 or the Attorney Generals office at 1-800-481-6896.
